American Liberty on maiden voyage off New England Coast

American Liberty, the latest Coastal Cat vessel from American Cruise Line, is currently sailing its maiden voyage from Providence, Rhode Island to the New England enclaves of Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Block Island. The 100-passenger small ship is part of American’s Project Blue commitment to build 12 new small ships for river and coastal cruises in the U.S.

“American Liberty is the newest ship in our fleet, reflecting our ongoing commitment to building small innovative ships for America’s rivers and coasts,” said Charles B. Robertson, President & CEO of American Cruise Lines. In addition to the current New England Island itinerary, American Liberty will embark on a slate of cruises along the East Coast throughout 2024 such as a Hudson River fall foliage sailing (that includes Sleepy Hollow call during Halloween season), one-way Baltimore to Jacksonville, followed by alternating one-way itineraries between Amelia Island, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina.

Because American Cruise Line is a 100% U.S. company, with its ships built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, it can sail entirely domestic itineraries that do not include a stop at an international port. American Liberty offers a small-ship experience, accommodating just 100 guests with 4 decks and a catamaran bow. Public spaces include a top Sun Deck for fresh air and views, comfortable lounges inside and out, a main restaurant, the Look Out Cafe for casual outside dining, and a fitness center. The catamaran bow offers stability and a shallow draft allowing the ship to explore close to shore, and the bow terrace makes a perfect spot for morning coffee and ocean breezes. Stateroom configurations include balcony accommodations starting at 300 square feet and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. Single and double occupancy balcony staterooms, suites, as well as a wheelchair-accessible room are available with elevator access to every deck.

American Liberty is the third Coastal Cat ship in the Project Blue series of 12 new small ships for U.S. river and coastal cruising. The 4th Coastal Cat, American Legend is set to begin cruising in November 2024 offering Florida Gulf Coast and Keys cruises out of St. Petersburg, Florida through the end of the year. The fifth and sixth ships in the series are 125-passenger Patriot Class ships, American Patriot and American Pioneer, and begin cruising in 2025. The Patriot Class ships have a traditional hull design with a uniform bow.
