Carnival Cruise Line’s Celebration Key Opening in Bahamas in 2025

Carnival Cruise Line is currently building Celebration Key – an exclusive port on the south side of Grand Bahama island. Set to open in summer 2025, Celebration Key will feature five different “portals” spread over 65 acres. Each portal is distinctly different with experiences like a mile-long white sand beach, large freshwater lagoons, local Bahamian flavors and shopping, family-friendly attractions, adult-only spaces, excursions, and more.

When Carnival ships arrive at Celebration Key in July 2025, visitors can take a short walk to Paradise Plaza, a brightly colored promenade with radiant sun-shaped arch perfect for photo-taking. The sight of the centerpiece 10-story Suncastle will beckon visitors to explore the destination. Live music fills the air, and passengers can find maps and information to help them learn more about Celebration Key’s offerings. There are options for all ages and interests including, relaxing in a cabana, playing water sports, joining shore excursions, or simply taking in the gorgeous view of the ocean from a mile-long pristine beach. A Bahamian-themed fountain and ice cream shop add to the welcoming atmosphere.

“When guests see our Suncastle as they arrive at Celebration Key, they’ll know immediately they’re in for big FUN. Paradise Plaza will be the perfect welcome spot and will set the tone for the entire visit to this truly unique destination,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

As guests survey their options, the adult-friendly Calypso Lagoon is certain to be the first choice for many. To the west of Paradise Plaza is Calypso Lagoon, the adult-friendly portal with a lively and social atmosphere. Active guests can visit the sports court, while those looking for a more laid-back vibe can take a dip in the huge freshwater lagoon, one of the largest in the Caribbean, and relax on one of the many loungers, daybeds, or cabanas.

On one side of the lagoon, guests will find a unique bar with nearly 50 swings for those that want to dip their toes in the cool water, enjoying great views across the lagoon as they sip on classic poolside and Bahamian cocktails. Additional bars located around Calypso Lagoon will ensure everyone’s thirst is quenched. Guests will also find two dedicated full-service restaurants, as well as a variety of casual snack shacks spread through the portal. The sweeping Bahamian beach is a perfect backdrop for lounging on the warm sand, swimming in the glistening Caribbean water, or enjoying fun-in-the-sun activities.

A portion of Calypso Lagoon and the adjacent beach will be designated as an adults-only area. In this section, guests will find a large swim-up bar with a DJ keeping the energy going all day. This area will also feature Bahamian food trucks, cabanas, daybeds, and loungers.

Lokono Cove is the retail portal of Celebration Key with a variety of stores and kiosks joining an authentic Bahamian artisan market showcasing local craftsmanship. Guests can browse through locally crafted goods, admiring the work of Bahamian artists. Visitors will find everything from souvenirs to fine jewelry at Lokono Cove, but the portal will also showcase Bahamian culture beyond the goods on display. Music will guide guests beneath swaying palm trees beside vibrant murals, each meticulously painted by talented Bahamian artists, to create a backdrop for indulging in local snacks.

“Lokono Cove will be a treasure trove – a place for our guests to immerse themselves in the spirit of The Bahamas and find locally-inspired keepsakes, symbols of paradise they can share with loved ones, or cherish for themselves for years to come,” Duffy said. “Honoring the beauty and culture of the Bahamas is integral to our plans for Celebration Key, and that will be on display throughout Lokono Cove.”

Additionally, Lokono Cove will serve as the gateway to Grand Bahama outside of Celebration Key. Whether guests choose to set out on their own or through Carnival Adventures shore excursions, Lokono Cove will be the departure point for guests looking to explore other areas of the beautiful island.

Carnival will release details on the remaining two portals, a family-friendly area and an adults-only private retreat in the future. Celebration Key is scheduled to welcome its first guests in July 2025, and more than 500 itineraries currently open for sale feature visits to the new destination on 18 ships sailing from 10 U.S. homeports. Carnival Mardi Gras will visit Celebration Key, sailing from Port Canaveral in July 2025, and you can read about our experience on Mardi Gras in this trip report.
